I’m a 1.5 generation Filipino immigrant — I left the Philippines at 9 years old and grew up in the United States. Like many others who moved young, I still find myself learning more about the history and cultural richness of our homeland. One of the most fascinating and often overlooked aspects of the Philippines is just how diverse it truly is. The Philippines is home to over 175 ethnolinguistic groups , each with its own language, culture, and history. Below is a more detailed look at the major groups, including where they live and approximate population sizes. The name “Leon” is simply “Noel” spelled backward , and “Noel” is a French word meaning “Christmas.” 🎅 Is It a Real Holiday? Leon Day is not a government holiday , but it's widely recognized online and in certain niche communities. Think of it like “Star Wars Day” (May the 4th)—fun, unofficial, but real to fans. Alexandra Eala beat Iga Swiatek in Miami Open Quarterfinals

Eala advances to semifinals. Congratulations Alex Eala! Just WOW. As a Filipino born in the Philippines, I'm just beaming with so much Pinoy pride right now. As an ex-high school tennis player, I so appreciate today's great upset/win. Iga Swiatek is a 5-time grand slam champion. But to have beat your last two opponents who were also grand slam champions, that makes three grand slam champions that you beat to get to the semifinals. I was going to watch the recorded match at my sister's house tonight. Vince said he'd record it. But I ended up subscribing to the Tennis Channel for one month. I had to watch Alex Eala LIVE to take on the WTA #2 (Swiatek was previously the #1 player in the world). Alex Eala is currently ranked #140 in the WTA (Women's Tennis Association).
